How to Visualize Music with AE [Tutorial]216

Music visualization is a great way to add an extra dimension to your music. It can help to create a more immersive experience for your listeners and can also be a lot of fun to create. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a simple music visualization in After Effects.

Step 1: Create a new project

Open After Effects and create a new project. The project settings will depend on the size and frame rate of your video. For this tutorial, I'm using a 1920x1080 project at 30 frames per second.

Step 2: Import your audio file

Click on the "File" menu and select "Import" > "File". Navigate to the location of your audio file and click "Open".

Step 3: Create a new composition

Click on the "Composition" menu and select "New Composition". In the "New Composition" dialog box, set the composition size and frame rate to match your project settings. Click "OK" to create the new composition.

Step 4: Add the audio file to the timeline

Drag and drop the audio file from the "Project" panel onto the timeline. The audio file will be added to the timeline as a new layer.

Step 5: Create a new shape layer

Click on the "Layer" menu and select "New" > "Shape Layer". A new shape layer will be added to the timeline as a new layer.

Step 6: Animate the shape layer

Select the shape layer in the timeline and click on the "Add keyframe" button in the "Transform" section of the Effect Controls panel. This will create a keyframe for the position of the shape layer.

Move the playhead to a later point in the timeline and click on the "Add keyframe" button again. This will create a second keyframe for the position of the shape layer.

In the "Effect Controls" panel, you can adjust the position, scale, and rotation of the shape layer at each keyframe. This will create the animation for the shape layer.

Step 7: Add an audio spectrum effect to the shape layer

Click on the "Effects & Presets" panel and search for "Audio Spectrum". Drag and drop the "Audio Spectrum" effect onto the shape layer.

In the "Effect Controls" panel, you can adjust the settings of the "Audio Spectrum" effect to control how the shape layer responds to the audio signal.

Step 8: Preview the animation

Click on the "Play" button in the timeline to preview the animation.

Step 9: Render the animation

Once you're happy with the animation, you can render it out as a video file. Click on the "Render" menu and select "Render". In the "Render Queue" dialog box, select the desired output format and location. Click "Render" to start the rendering process.

Conclusion

Music visualization is a great way to add an extra dimension to your music. In this tutorial, I've shown you how to create a simple music visualization in After Effects. With a little practice, you can create even more complex and visually stunning visualizations.
