Lace edgings are a beautiful and intricate way to add a touch of elegance to any fabric project. They can be used to embellish garments, home décor, and even wedding veils. While lace edging can seem intimidating to make, it is actually quite easy with the right instructions.

Materials
Lace yarn (size 10 or 20)
Crochet hook (size 3.5mm or 4mm)

Instructions

Row 1: Create a slip knot and place it on the crochet hook. Chain 3, then work 1 single crochet (sc) into the 2nd chain from the hook. Chain 1, then work 2 sc into the same chain. *Chain 1, skip 1 chain, sc into the next chain. Repeat from * 3 more times. Chain 1, then join with a slip stitch to the 2nd chain from the beginning of the row.

Repeat from * 3 more times. Chain 1, then join with a slip stitch to the top of the turning chain from the previous row.

To make a picot stitch: Chain 3, then slip stitch back into the same chain you started from.

Row 6: Chain 3, then work 1 sc into the first chain. Chain 1, then work 2 sc into the same chain. *Chain 1, skip 1 chain, work 1 picot stitch, then 1 sc into the next chain. Repeat from * 3 more times. Chain 1, then join with a slip stitch to the top of the turning chain from the previous row.

Row 7: Chain 3, then work 1 sc into the first chain. Chain 1, then work 2 sc into the same chain. *Chain 1, skip 1 chain, work 1 sc, then 1 dc into the next chain. Repeat from * 3 more times. Chain 1, then join with a slip stitch to the top of the turning chain from the previous row.

Continue repeating rows 7-10 until the edging is the desired length.

Once the edging is complete, fasten off the yarn and weave in any loose ends.

Tips
For a neater finish, use a smaller hook size.
If you need to join two pieces of edging, slip stitch them together.
Lace edging can be used to embellish anything from clothing to home décor.
