Step 1: Create a New Document

Step 6: Round the Corners of the Hub

Use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to select the corners of the hub. Then, use the Rounded Rectangle Tool (Shift + M) to round the corners of the hub.

Step 7: Add a Keyway

A keyway is a slot that is cut into the hub of the gear. The keyway allows the gear to be connected to a shaft using a key. To add a keyway, use the Rectangle Tool (M) to draw a rectangle in the hub of the gear. The size of the rectangle will determine the size of the keyway.

Step 8: Group the Gear

Select all of the parts of the gear and group them together by pressing Command + G (Mac) or Control + G (Windows). Grouping the gear will make it easier to move and scale the gear.

Step 9: Save the Gear

Save the gear by going to File > Save. Choose a file format that is compatible with your design software. I recommend saving the gear in the SVG format, which is a vector format that can be scaled to any size without losing quality.
