Frosted Glass Icon Design Tutorial147
Frosted glass icons have a unique and elegant look that can make your designs stand out. They're perfect for creating a sense of depth and sophistication, and they can be used in a variety of applications, from websites to mobile apps.
In this tutorial, we'll show you how to create your own frosted glass icons using Adobe Photoshop. We'll cover everything from creating the basic shape to adding the frosted glass effect.
Creating the Basic Shape
The first step is to create the basic shape of your icon. You can use any shape you want, but we're going to use a simple rectangle for this tutorial.
To create a rectangle, select the Rectangle Tool from the toolbar and then click and drag on the canvas. Hold down the Shift key to create a perfect square.
Once you have your basic shape, you can start to refine it. You can use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to adjust the corners of the shape, or you can use the Transform Tool (Cmd/Ctrl + T) to scale or rotate it.
Adding the Frosted Glass Effect
Once you're happy with the shape of your icon, you can start to add the frosted glass effect. To do this, we're going to use a layer style.
To create a layer style, right-click on the layer in the Layers panel and select "Blending Options". In the Blending Options dialog box, select the "Inner Shadow" option.
In the Inner Shadow settings, adjust the following options:* Blend Mode: Multiply
* Opacity: 50%
* Angle: 120 degrees
* Distance: 0 px
* Choke: 0%
* Size: 10 px
These settings will create a soft, diffused shadow inside the icon. This will give it the appearance of frosted glass.
Adding Highlights
To add highlights to the icon, we're going to use a layer mask. A layer mask allows you to selectively hide or show parts of a layer.
To create a layer mask, click on the "Add Layer Mask" icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. A white layer mask will be added to the layer.
Select the Brush Tool (B) and choose a soft, round brush. Set the foreground color to white.
Paint over the areas of the icon that you want to highlight. The white paint will reveal the layer below, which will create the illusion of highlights.
Finishing Touches
Once you're happy with the highlights, you can add any finishing touches to your icon. This could include adding a drop shadow, bevel, or emboss effect.
To add a drop shadow, select the "Drop Shadow" option in the Blending Options dialog box. Adjust the settings to your liking.
To add a bevel or emboss effect, select the "Bevel and Emboss" option in the Blending Options dialog box. Adjust the settings to your liking.
