Grammar

In this lesson, we will learn two new grammar rules:
The measure word
Adjectives

The Measure Word

A measure word is a word that is used to quantify a noun. Measure words are used in Chinese to indicate the unit of measurement for a noun. For example, the measure word for "people" is 人 (rén), the measure word for "books" is 本 (běn), and the measure word for "cars" is 辆 (liàng).

Measure words are placed after the noun that they quantify. For example, to say "one person", you would say "一个人" (yī gè rén). To say "two books", you would say "两本书" (liǎng běn shū). And to say "three cars", you would say "三辆车" (sān liàng chē).

Adjectives

An adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun. Adjectives in Chinese are placed before the noun or pronoun that they modify. For example, to say "big house", you would say "大房子" (dà fángzi). To say "beautiful woman", you would say "漂亮的女人" (piàoliang de nǚrén). And to say "tall man", you would say "高个子男人" (gāo gèzi nánrén).

Exercises

Complete the following exercises to practice using measure words and adjectives in Chinese:
Translate the following sentence into Chinese: "I have three books."
Translate the following sentence into Chinese: "The tall man has a beautiful wife."
