Dragon Boat Festival Graphics Design Tutorial79

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. It commemorates the life and death of the ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River in 278 BC. The festival is celebrated with dragon boat races, the eating of zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings), and the hanging of calamus and mugwort leaves on doors and windows to ward off evil spirits.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a simple Dragon Boat Festival-themed graphic design using Adobe Photoshop. We will be using a combination of shapes, colors, and textures to create a festive and eye-catching design.

Step 1: Create a new document

Open Adobe Photoshop and create a new document. The size of the document will depend on the intended use of the graphic. For a social media post, a size of 1080px by 1080px is a good starting point. For a website banner, a size of 1200px by 600px is a good choice.

Step 2: Create a background

Select the Background layer in the Layers panel and fill it with a light blue color. This will create a simple sky background.

Step 3: Create a dragon boat

Use the Shape Tool to create a long, thin rectangle. This will be the body of the dragon boat. Fill the rectangle with a dark green color.

Use the Ellipse Tool to create a small circle. This will be the head of the dragon boat. Fill the circle with a light green color.

Use the Line Tool to create a line along the bottom of the dragon boat. This will be the keel of the boat.

Use the Rectangle Tool to create a small rectangle on the back of the dragon boat. This will be the stern of the boat.

Use the Line Tool to create a line along the top of the dragon boat. This will be the gunwale of the boat.

Use the Ellipse Tool to create two small circles on the sides of the dragon boat. These will be the oars of the boat.

Step 4: Add details to the dragon boat

Use the Brush Tool to paint on some details to the dragon boat, such as the scales on the body, the eyes on the head, and the oars on the sides.

Step 5: Create a dragon

Use the Shape Tool to create a long, thin rectangle. This will be the body of the dragon.

Use the Ellipse Tool to create a small circle. This will be the head of the dragon.

Use the Line Tool to create a line along the bottom of the dragon. This will be the tail of the dragon.

Use the Rectangle Tool to create a small rectangle on the back of the dragon. This will be the wings of the dragon.

Use the Line Tool to create a line along the top of the dragon. This will be the back of the dragon.

Use the Ellipse Tool to create two small circles on the sides of the dragon. These will be the eyes of the dragon.

Step 6: Add details to the dragon

Use the Brush Tool to paint on some details to the dragon, such as the scales on the body, the eyes on the head, and the wings on the back.

Step 7: Add a background

Create a new layer above the Dragon Boat layer. Use the Gradient Tool to create a gradient background. The gradient can be any color you like, but a light blue to dark blue gradient will create a nice water effect.

Step 8: Add text

Create a new layer above the Background layer. Use the Text Tool to add some text to the graphic. The text can be anything you like, but a simple message such as "Happy Dragon Boat Festival" or "端午安康" will do.

Step 9: Save the graphic

Once you are happy with your design, save the graphic as a JPEG or PNG file. You can then use the graphic for your social media posts, website banners, or other marketing materials.
