Bread Bag Tote Bag Design Tutorial222
Bread bags are a great way to store and transport bread. They are reusable, which helps to reduce waste, and they can be made in a variety of styles to match your taste. This tutorial will show you how to make a simple bread bag tote bag with a drawstring closure.
Materials- 1/2 yard of fabric (canvas or other sturdy fabric)
- 1/4 yard of contrasting fabric for the lining (optional)
- 1/2 yard of 1/4-inch wide ribbon or cord
- Scissors
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Sewing machine
- Iron and ironing board
Instructions1. Cut two pieces of fabric (or one piece of fabric cut to twice the height of the bag) that are 18 inches wide by 14 inches tall.
2. If using two pieces of fabric, sew them together along one of the 14-inch sides.
3. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together.
4. Sew along the two 14-inch sides and one 18-inch side, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
5. Turn the bag right side out and press.
6. If using a lining fabric, cut two pieces that are 17 inches wide by 13 inches tall.
7. Sew the lining pieces together along one of the 13-inch sides.
8. Fold the lining fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together.
9. Insert the lining fabric into the bag, right sides together. Align the raw edges of the lining fabric with the raw edges of the bag.
10. Pin the lining fabric to the bag around the top edge.
11. Sew around the top edge of the bag, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
12. Turn the bag right side out and press.
13. Cut a piece of ribbon or cord that is 36 inches long.
14. Fold the ribbon or cord in half and tie a knot in the end.
15. Thread the ribbon or cord through the casing at the top of the bag.
16. Tie the ribbon or cord into a bow to close the bag.
Tips- You can use any type of fabric to make a bread bag tote bag, but canvas or other sturdy fabrics will hold up better to wear and tear.
- If you are using a lining fabric, make sure that it is a lightweight fabric that will not add too much bulk to the bag.
- You can add a variety of embellishments to your bread bag tote bag, such as embroidery, appliqué, or rickrack.
- Be sure to wash and dry your bread bag tote bag before using it for the first time. This will help to remove any excess fabric dye or shrinkage.
