Objectives:
Students will be able to define the term "emotion."
Students will be able to identify and label different emotions.
Students will be able to explain how emotions can affect their thoughts and behaviors.
Students will be able to develop strategies for managing their emotions.

Materials:
Whiteboard or chart paper
Markers
Index cards
Paper
Pencils

Procedure:

1. Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin by reviewing the definition of the term "emotion."
Explain that emotions are feelings that we experience in response to our thoughts, experiences, and the world around us.

2. Identifying and Labeling Emotions (10 minutes)
Ask students to think about different emotions they have experienced.
Have students write down as many emotions as they can think of on index cards.
Once students have finished writing, have them share their emotions with the class.
As students share their emotions, write them on the whiteboard or chart paper.

3. Exploring the Effects of Emotions on Thoughts and Behaviors (15 minutes)
Ask students to think about how different emotions can affect their thoughts and behaviors.
For example, how does feeling happy make them think and act differently than feeling sad?
Have students discuss their thoughts and behaviors with a partner.
After students have discussed with a partner, have them share their findings with the class.

4. Developing Strategies for Managing Emotions (20 minutes)
Explain to students that it is important to be able to manage their emotions so that they can make healthy choices and cope with stress.
Brainstorm with students different strategies for managing their emotions.
Have students write down the strategies they come up with on a piece of paper.
After students have written down their strategies, have them share them with the class.

5. Closure (5 minutes)
Review the main points of the lesson.
Remind students that it is okay to experience all kinds of emotions.
Encourage students to use the strategies they learned to manage their emotions in a healthy way.

Assessment:
Students can be verbally assessed through their participation in class discussions.
Students can also be assessed through their written work, such as the list of emotions they created or the strategies they wrote down for managing their emotions.

Differentiation:
For students who are struggling with the concept of emotions, provide them with concrete examples and visual aids.
For students who are already familiar with emotions, challenge them to explore more complex emotions and their effects on thoughts and behaviors.
