I. Objectives
Foster students' understanding of mental health.
Enhance students' resilience and coping skills.
Promote positive mental well-being among students.
II. Materials
Whiteboard or chart paper
Markers
Sticky notes or index cards
Music (optional)
III. ProcedureA. Opening Activity (5 minutes)
Greet students and welcome them to the class meeting.
Ask students to share how they are feeling today.
Explain that they will be discussing mental health and well-being.
B. What is Mental Health? (10 minutes)
Ask students what they know about mental health.
Explain that mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
Discuss the different aspects of mental health, such as our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
C. Signs of Good Mental Health (15 minutes)
Brainstorm with students the signs of good mental health.
Write their ideas on the whiteboard or chart paper, such as:
Feeling happy and content
Having healthy relationships
Being able to cope with stress
D. Signs of Poor Mental Health (15 minutes)
Discuss with students the signs of poor mental health.
Explain that it is important to recognize these signs so that we can get help if we need it.
Some examples of signs of poor mental health include:
Feeling sad or depressed
Having difficulty sleeping
Withdrawing from friends and family
E. Coping Skills (20 minutes)
Ask students to share their ideas for coping with stress and difficult emotions.
Brainstorm a list of coping skills, such as:
Talking to a trusted adult
Exercising
Spending time in nature
Encourage students to practice these coping skills regularly.
F. Positive Affirmations (10 minutes)
Explain to students the importance of positive self-talk.
Have students write down positive affirmations about themselves, such as "I am capable" or "I am loved."
Encourage students to repeat these affirmations to themselves regularly.
G. Relaxation Techniques (10 minutes)
Teach students simple relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation.
Play some calming music and guide students through a relaxation exercise.
H. Closing Activity (5 minutes)
Ask students to reflect on what they have learned about mental health.
Encourage students to continue practicing the coping skills and positive affirmations.
Remind students that they are not alone and that there are people who care about them.
