If you're looking for a fun and easy way to make zongzi at home, be sure to watch our step-by-step video tutorial below!
Ingredients:
2 cups glutinous rice
1 cup water
1/2 pound pork belly, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup dried shrimp
1/2 cup shiitake mushrooms, soaked and chopped
1/4 cup bamboo shoots, chopped
1/4 cup water chestnuts, chopped
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice wine
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
30 bamboo leaves, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Kitchen twine
Instructions:1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. In a large bowl, combine the glutinous rice, water, soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, and salt. Mix well.
3. In a separate bowl, combine the pork belly, dried shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts. Mix well.
4. To assemble the zongzi, take a bamboo leaf and fold it in half lengthwise. Add a few tablespoons of the rice mixture to the center of the leaf.
5. Top with a few pieces of the pork belly mixture.
6. Fold the leaf over the filling and bring the two sides together. Tie the zongzi with kitchen twine.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 with the remaining ingredients.
8. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the zongzi and cook for 2-3 hours, or until the rice is cooked through.
9. Remove the zongzi from the pot and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
10. Enjoy!
Tips:
You can use any type of fillings you like in your zongzi. Some popular options include pork belly, dried shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts.
If you don't have bamboo leaves, you can use banana leaves or corn husks instead.
Zongzi can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
