A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Delicious Homemade Youtiao169
Youtiao, also known as Chinese crullers, are a classic breakfast treat that is enjoyed by many. These crispy and chewy fried dough sticks are often served with congee or soy milk. While youtiao can be found in most Chinese restaurants, they are also surprisingly easy to make at home. With the right ingredients and a little bit of practice, you can enjoy fresh and delicious youtiao whenever you crave them.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water
Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Gradually add the warm water to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.
Roll out each piece of dough into a long, thin strip, about 1/4-inch thick.
With a sharp knife, make a cut in the center of each strip of dough, about 2 inches long.
Pass one end of the dough strip through the cut. You should now have two loops of dough.
Pull the two ends of the dough through the loops and tighten to form a knot.
Heat a large pot or wok over medium heat. Add enough vegetable oil to fill the pot to a depth of about 2 inches.
Once the oil is hot, carefully add the youtiao to the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the youtiao from the pot and drain on paper towels.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips:
For a crispier youtiao, fry them at a slightly higher temperature. Just be careful not to burn them.
If you don't have a deep fryer, you can use a large pot or wok instead. Just make sure to use enough oil to cover the youtiao.
Youtiao can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. To reheat, simply fry them again for a few seconds until they are warm and crispy.
Enjoy!
There you have it! With a little bit of effort, you can enjoy fresh and delicious youtiao at home. So what are you waiting for? Give this recipe a try and let me know how it turns out.
