Numbers
Numbers in Vietnamese are relatively easy to learn. The numbers from 0 to 10 are:
0 - Không
1 - Một
2 - Hai
3 - Ba
li>4 - Bốn
5 - Năm
6 - Sáu
7 - Bảy
8 - Tám
9 - Chín
10 - Mười
To form numbers from 11 to 19, simply say the number of tens followed by the number of ones. For example, 11 is "mười một" (ten one), 12 is "mười hai" (ten two), and so on.
To form numbers from 20 to 99, say the number of tens followed by the word "mươi" (ten) and the number of ones. For example, 20 is "hai mươi" (two ten), 35 is "ba mươi lăm" (three ten five), and so on.
To form numbers from 100 to 999, say the number of hundreds followed by the word "trăm" (hundred) and the number of tens and ones. For example, 100 is "một trăm" (one hundred), 250 is "hai trăm năm mươi" (two hundred five-ten), and so on.
To form numbers from 1,000 to 999,999, say the number of thousands followed by the word "ngàn" (thousand) and the number of hundreds, tens, and ones. For example, 1,000 is "một ngàn" (one thousand), 2,500 is "hai ngàn năm trăm" (two thousand five hundred), and so on.
To form numbers from 1,000,000 to 999,999,999, say the number of millions followed by the word "triệu" (million) and the number of thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. For example, 1,000,000 is "một triệu" (one million), 2,500,000 is "hai triệu năm trăm ngàn" (two million five hundred thousand), and so on.
Dates
Dates in Vietnamese are typically expressed in the following format: dd/mm/yyyy. For example, March 8, 2023 would be written as 08/03/2023.
To say the date in Vietnamese, simply say the day of the month followed by the month and year. For example, to say March 8, 2023, you would say "tám tháng ba năm hai nghìn hai mươi ba" (eight month three year two thousand twenty-three).
Time
Time in Vietnamese is typically expressed in the following format: hh:mm. For example, 3:00 PM would be written as 15:00.
To say the time in Vietnamese, simply say the hour followed by the minute. For example, to say 3:00 PM, you would say "ba giờ" (three hours) followed by "không giờ" (zero minutes).
Questions
There are two main ways to ask questions in Vietnamese:
Using the question word "ai" (who) or "gì" (what): For example, to ask "Who is this?", you would say "Ai đây?" (Who here?). To ask "What is this?", you would say "Gì đây?" (What here?).
Using the question particle "không": For example, to ask "Are you okay?", you would say "Bạn không ổn?" (You not okay?). To ask "Do you want to eat?", you would say "Bạn có muốn ăn không?" (You have want eat not?).
Negations
To negate a sentence in Vietnamese, simply add the word "không" (not) before the verb. For example, to say "I do not like it", you would say "Tôi không thích nó" (I not like it).
