Learn to Play Piano with the Easy Piano Lesson Series: Lesson 2250

Introduction

Welcome to the second lesson of our easy piano lesson series. In this lesson, we'll build upon what we learned in the first lesson and introduce some new concepts to help you progress in your piano playing journey.

Reviewing the Basics

Before we dive into new material, let's quickly review what we covered in the first lesson:
The names and positions of the white keys on the piano
How to sit properly at the piano
How to place your fingers on the correct keys
The concept of rhythm and reading simple rhythms

Introducing New Concepts

Note Values

In this lesson, we'll introduce the concept of note values. Note values tell us how long a note should be held down when played. The three main note values we'll focus on are quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes. A quarter note looks like a filled-in circle with a stem, a half note like an empty circle with a stem, and a whole note like a filled-in circle without a stem.

Time Signature

Another important concept we'll introduce is time signature. Time signature tells us how many beats are in each measure and what type of note gets one beat. The time signature for most of the pieces in this lesson will be 4/4, which means there are four beats in each measure and a quarter note gets one beat.

Musical Staff

We'll also introduce the musical staff in this lesson. The staff consists of five lines and four spaces. Notes are placed on or between these lines and spaces to indicate their pitch.

Applying the New Concepts

Playing Simple Melodies

With these new concepts under our belt, we can now start playing simple melodies. We'll practice playing a C major scale, which is one of the most fundamental scales in piano playing.

Reading Sheet Music

We'll also start reading simple sheet music in this lesson. We'll learn how to identify notes on the staff, the time signature, and the rhythm of the music.

Tips for Success

Here are a few tips to help you succeed in this lesson and beyond:
Practice regularly. Even 15 minutes of practice each day can make a big difference.
Be patient and don't get discouraged. Learning to play the piano takes time and effort.
Find a teacher or online resources to help guide you.
Have fun! Learning the piano should be an enjoyable experience.

Conclusion

Congratulations on completing the second lesson of our easy piano lesson series! You're now on your way to becoming a skilled pianist. Keep practicing and exploring new concepts, and you'll be amazed at how quickly your skills develop.
