DIY Gardening Apron Tutorial Made Easy347

Gardening is a rewarding hobby that allows you to connect with nature and enjoy the fruits of your labor. However, it can also be a messy activity that can leave your clothes stained and dirty. To protect your clothes while gardening, a gardening apron is a must-have. Not only will it keep you clean, but it will also provide you with pockets to store your tools and supplies.

Materials You'll Need:
1 yard of durable fabric (such as canvas, denim, or twill)
1/2 yard of contrasting fabric (for pockets and straps)
Two 1-inch D-rings
10 feet of cotton webbing or twill tape (for straps)
Matching thread
Scissors
Measuring tape or ruler
Fabric marker or chalk
Sewing machine
Iron and ironing board

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut Out the Fabric Pieces

From the durable fabric, cut out the following pieces:
Apron body: 2 pieces measuring 24 inches wide by 28 inches long
Pocket: 2 pieces measuring 12 inches wide by 16 inches long

From the contrasting fabric, cut out the following pieces:
Straps: 4 pieces measuring 3 inches wide by 24 inches long
Pocket trim: 4 pieces measuring 2 inches wide by 12 inches long

Step 2: Create the Pockets

Fold the edges of the pocket pieces inward by 1/2 inch and press them down with an iron. Fold the edges inward again by 1/2 inch and press them down. Topstitch around the edges of the pockets to secure them.

Step 3: Attach the Pockets to the Apron Body

Center one of the pocket pieces on the front of one of the apron body pieces, 6 inches from the top edge. Sew the pocket in place around the three sides, leaving the top edge open.

Repeat Step 3 with the other pocket piece on the other apron body piece.

Step 4: Create the Straps

Fold the edges of the strap pieces inward by 1/2 inch and press them down with an iron. Fold the edges inward again by 1/2 inch and press them down. Topstitch around the edges of the straps to secure them.

Step 5: Attach the Straps to the Apron Body

Center one of the straps on the back of the apron body, 6 inches from the top edge. Sew the strap in place around the three sides, leaving the top edge open.

Repeat Step 5 with the other strap on the other side of the apron body.

Step 6: Attach the Pocket Trim

Center one of the pocket trim pieces on the top edge of one of the pockets. Sew the trim in place around the edges, leaving the corners open.

Repeat Step 6 with the other pocket trim pieces on the other pockets.

Step 7: Attach the D-Rings

Attach the D-rings to the top corners of the apron body, near the straps. Sew the D-rings in place securely.

Step 8: Finish the Apron

Fold the top edge of the apron inward by 1/2 inch and press it down with an iron. Fold the edge inward again by 1/2 inch and press it down. Topstitch around the top edge of the apron to secure it.

Your DIY gardening apron is now complete! Enjoy the convenience and protection it provides while you tend to your garden.
