A dedicated gardening storage cabinet can be a valuable addition to any garden, providing a secure and weather-resistant home for your essential gardening equipment.
Materials Required:
1 sheet of ¾-inch exterior-grade plywood (4 feet x 8 feet)
1 2x4 stud (8 feet long)
2 2x3 studs (8 feet long)
1 pair of 3-inch butt hinges
1 hook and eye latch
Exterior wood screws (2 to 3 inches and 1 to 1½ inches)
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Paint or stain (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Cut the PlywoodCut the plywood into the following pieces:
2 pieces: 24 inches x 36 inches (sides)
1 piece: 24 inches x 28 inches (top)
1 piece: 24 inches x 19½ inches (bottom)
1 piece: 16½ inches x 28 inches (back)
Step 2: Assemble the FrameCut the 2x4 stud into two 36-inch pieces. These will serve as the vertical supports for the sides.
Attach the vertical supports to the inside of the side panels, flush with the top and bottom edges. Use wood glue and 2-inch wood screws to secure them.
Step 3: Install the BackPosition the back panel inside the frame and align it flush with the top and bottom edges. Secure it with 1-inch wood screws spaced every 6 inches.
Step 4: Install the Top and BottomPlace the top and bottom panels on the frame, aligning them flush with the front and back edges. Secure them with 1-inch wood screws.
Step 5: Add the DoorCut the remaining 2x3 studs into two 28-inch pieces for the door frame. Assemble the frame using wood glue and 1½-inch wood screws.
Attach the door frame to one of the side panels using 3-inch butt hinges.
Step 6: Install the LatchInstall a hook and eye latch to the door and the side panel to keep the door closed.
Step 7: Finishing TouchesSand any rough edges on the cabinet. If desired, apply paint or stain for added protection and aesthetics.
