DIY Retractable Garden Hose Hanger279

A retractable garden hose hanger is a great way to keep your hose organized and out of the way when not in use. It can also help to extend the life of your hose by protecting it from the elements. Best of all, it's a relatively easy and inexpensive project to build yourself.

Materials* 12-inch piece of 2x4 lumber
* 4-inch piece of 3/4-inch PVC pipe
* 1-inch wood screws
* 2-inch wood screws
* 3/8-inch corner braces (2)
* 1/4-inch eye bolt
* 1/4-inch washers (2)
* 1/4-inch nuts (2)
* 4-foot length of paracord
* Garden hose (not included)

Instructions1. Cut the 2x4 lumber. Cut the 2x4 lumber into a 12-inch piece. This will be the base of the hanger.
2. Drill holes for the PVC pipe. Drill two 3/4-inch holes in the 2x4 lumber, 2 inches from each end. The holes should be centered on the 2x4.
3. Insert the PVC pipe. Insert the 4-inch piece of PVC pipe into the holes you just drilled. The PVC pipe should fit snugly in the holes.
4. Secure the PVC pipe. Secure the PVC pipe to the 2x4 lumber with two 1-inch wood screws.
5. Attach the corner braces. Attach the two 3/8-inch corner braces to the bottom of the 2x4 lumber, flush with the ends. The corner braces will help to support the weight of the garden hose.
6. Drill a hole for the eye bolt. Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the center of the 2x4 lumber, 4 inches from the top. The hole should be large enough to accommodate the eye bolt.
7. Insert the eye bolt. Insert the 1/4-inch eye bolt into the hole you just drilled. Secure the eye bolt with two 1/4-inch washers and two 1/4-inch nuts.
8. Tie the paracord to the eye bolt. Tie one end of the 4-foot length of paracord to the eye bolt. The other end of the paracord will be attached to the garden hose.
9. Attach the garden hose. Attach the garden hose to the paracord by tying a knot in the end of the hose. The knot should be large enough to prevent the hose from slipping off the paracord.
10. Hang the hanger. Hang the hanger on a wall or fence post using a hook or nail. The eye bolt should be facing down so that the garden hose can hang freely.

Tips* You can use any type of wood for the base of the hanger. However, pressure-treated wood is a good choice because it is resistant to rot and decay.
* If you do not have a drill, you can use a hammer and nail to secure the PVC pipe and corner braces to the 2x4 lumber.
* You can adjust the length of the paracord to suit your needs. However, the paracord should be long enough to allow the garden hose to hang freely without kinking.
* If you are using the hanger to store a long garden hose, you may want to add a second eye bolt to the center of the hanger. This will help to support the weight of the hose and prevent it from sagging.
