Materials:- 2 bags (60 lbs) of cement mix
- 2-3 gallons of water
- Large mixing tub
- Shovel or hoe
- Trowel
- Wooden form (18" x 18" x 12")
- Reinforcing wire mesh (36" x 18")
- Level
- Fine-grit sandpaper
- Sponge
- Sealant

Instructions:Step 1: Prepare the Wooden Form
Build a wooden form using plywood or other sturdy material. The dimensions should be 18" x 18" x 12". Line the inside of the form with plastic sheeting to prevent the cement from sticking.
Step 2: Mix the Cement
In the large mixing tub, gradually add water to the cement mix while mixing with a shovel or hoe. The ratio of water to cement is approximately 1 gallon of water per 30 lbs. of cement. Mix until the consistency resembles thick pancake batter.
Step 3: Pour the First Layer
Pour about 2 inches of cement mixture into the prepared form. Tap the sides of the form gently to release any air bubbles. Use a trowel to spread the cement evenly and smooth the surface.
Step 4: Add Reinforcing Mesh
Cut the reinforcing wire mesh to fit the size of the form. Place the mesh on top of the first layer of cement. This will add strength and prevent the cement from cracking.
Step 5: Pour the Second Layer
Pour the remaining cement mixture over the reinforcing mesh. Fill the form to the top and smooth the surface using a trowel. Ensure that the cement is thick enough to support the weight of the planters.
Step 6: Level the Surface
Use a level to check if the surface of the cement is even. Adjust as needed by adding or removing cement. Allow the cement to set for at least 12 hours.
Step 7: Remove the Form
After the cement has set, carefully remove the wooden form. Use a hammer and chisel or pry bar to gently loosen the form from the cement.
Step 8: Sand and Smooth
Once the cement is completely dry, use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth any rough edges or imperfections. For a more polished look, use a sponge to apply a sealant to the surface.
Step 9: Cure the Cement
To ensure maximum strength, allow the cement to cure for at least 28 days. Keep the cement moist by covering it with a damp cloth or plastic tarp.
