Beginner Piano Lessons for Kids: Video 2263

In this second video of our beginner piano lessons for kids, we'll continue learning the basics of playing the piano. We'll review the notes we learned in the first video and practice reading simple melodies. We'll also start learning how to use our left hand to play chords.

Before we start, let's review the notes we learned in the first video: C, D, E, F, and G. These notes are all located on the white keys of the piano, and they form the basis of most Western music.

To practice reading simple melodies, we're going to use a children's song called "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." The melody for this song is very simple, and it only uses the notes C, D, E, F, and G.

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

C C G G A A G F F E E D D C C

To play this melody, start by finding the note C on the piano. It's the white key to the left of the two black keys in the middle of the keyboard. Once you've found C, play the notes in the order that they're listed above.

Once you've mastered "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," you can try playing other simple melodies, such as "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or "Hot Cross Buns." You can find sheet music for these and other children's songs online or in piano method books.

In addition to learning how to read melodies, we're also going to start learning how to use our left hand to play chords. Chords are groups of notes that are played together, and they provide the harmonic foundation for a song.

For our first chord, we're going to learn the C major chord. This chord is made up of the notes C, E, and G.

To play the C major chord, place your left hand thumb on the C note, your left hand index finger on the E note, and your left hand middle finger on the G note.

Once you've positioned your fingers, press down on all three notes simultaneously. The C major chord should sound bright and cheerful.

Once you've mastered the C major chord, you can try playing other simple chords, such as the G major chord or the D major chord. You can find chord charts online or in piano method books.

In this video, we've reviewed the notes we learned in the first video, practiced reading simple melodies, and started learning how to use our left hand to play chords. In the next video, we'll continue learning about chords and start playing some simple songs.
