3D Type Poster Tutorial in Illustrator227
Create a professional-looking 3D type poster in Adobe Illustrator with this step-by-step tutorial. You'll learn how to use the 3D Effects & Materials panel, work with lights and textures, and export your final design for print.
Step 1: Create a New Document and Set Up Your Text
Launch Illustrator and create a new document with a size of approximately 11" x 17". Use the Type Tool (T) to add your text and adjust its font, size, and color to your liking.
Step 2: Apply 3D Effects
Select your text and go to Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel. This will open the 3D Effects & Materials panel. Experiment with the settings under the Extrude & Bevel options, adjusting the depth, bevel, and shading to create the desired 3D effect.
Step 3: Add Lighting
To add depth and realism, go to the 3D Effects & Materials panel and click on the Lighting tab. Create a new Light and adjust its type, color, and intensity. Position the light to cast shadows and highlights that enhance the 3D effect.
Step 4: Choose Materials
Under the Appearance tab in the 3D Effects & Materials panel, select a material for your text. You can choose from a variety of predefined materials or create your own custom materials. Adjust the material's color, texture, and reflectivity to match your design.
Step 5: Add Texture
To give your text more depth and detail, add a texture map. Go to the Map Art tab in the 3D Effects & Materials panel and create a new Bump Map. Load a texture image and adjust its scale and intensity to create the desired effect.
Step 6: Position and Rotate
Use the Position tab in the 3D Effects & Materials panel to adjust the position and rotation of your text. This allows you to create perspective and add interest to your poster.
Step 7: Export for Print
Once you're satisfied with the look of your 3D type, go to File > Export > Export As. Select a raster format such as PNG or JPEG and set a high resolution (300dpi or higher) for print. Save your file and you're done!
Pro Tips* Experiment with different bevels and extrusions to create unique 3D effects.

* Preview your design in 3D mode (Menu > 3D > Preview 3D) to get a realistic idea of how it will look.
* Don't be afraid to tweak and adjust settings until you achieve the desired result.
