UG Standard Part Library Development Tutorial240

Introduction

UG Standard Part Library (UGSPL) is a comprehensive library of standard parts and components commonly used in engineering design. It enables engineers to quickly and easily insert standard parts into their designs, saving time and effort. This tutorial provides a step-by-step guide on how to develop your own UGSPL.

Prerequisites

- UG NX software
- Familiarity with basic UG modeling techniques

Step 1: Create a New Library

1. Open UG NX.
2. Click File > New > Library.
3. In the New Library dialog box, enter a name for the library (e.g., "MyStandardPartLibrary") and click OK.
4. Right-click in the tree view and select New > Group. Name the group (e.g., "Bolts").

Step 2: Import Standard Parts

1. Collect the 3D models of the standard parts you want to include in the library.
2. Right-click in the group you created in Step 1 and select Import > Part.
3. Select the 3D model file and click Open.

Step 3: Define Parameters

1. Right-click on the imported part and select Define Parameters.
2. In the Part Parameters dialog box, define the parameters that control the size and other characteristics of the part.
3. Click OK to save the parameters.

Step 4: Create Variations

1. Right-click on the part and select New > Variation.
2. In the Variation dialog box, specify the values for the parameters defined in Step 3.
3. Click OK to create the variation.

Step 5: Create a Thumbnail

1. Select the part.
2. Right-click on the part and select Generate Thumbnail.
3. Specify the size and quality of the thumbnail.
4. Click OK to create the thumbnail.

Step 6: Add Metadata

1. Right-click on the part and select Properties.
2. In the Properties dialog box, enter the following metadata:
- Description
- Manufacturer
- Part number
- Material
- Surface finish
3. Click OK to save the metadata.

Step 7: Save and Share the Library

1. Click File > Save.
2. Enter a name for the library file (e.g., "").
3. Click OK to save the library.
4. To share the library, click File > Export > Standard Part Library.
5. Select the library file and click Export.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can develop your own UGSPL that will streamline your engineering design process. The library will provide you with easy access to standard parts, saving you time and effort. You can also share the library with your colleagues, ensuring consistency in part selection and design.
